Geochemistry is an important part of the research underway in the KU Geology Department. Current research projects are concerned with radionuclide analysis for the purposes of dating tectonic events, analysis of inorganic constituents in water to understand the geochemical evolution of groundwater, the analysis of organic contaminants in groundwater to study the fate, transport and remediation of these substances, and the analysis of biologically related compounds to study the involvement of microorganisms in mineral weathering and biodegradation of contaminants. The links provided below provide additional details about these research activities.
