The Future of Continental Scientific Drilling:
A U.S. Perspective

June 4th–5th, 2009
Comfort Inn and Brown Palace
Denver, Colorado

Posters and one pagers

Participants, except keynoters, are invited to prepare a small poster to present at the meeting. Posters may summarize past projects, justify future projects, or present views of the future of continental scientific drilling. Posters will be grouped by themes, and authors will be encouraged to be with them during break times. Posters should be no larger than 42 x 36 inches or about 105 x 90 cm.

A key component of the report of this workshop will be a number of “one pagers”, brief reports of future projects or future directions for continental drilling. One pagers may be closely based upon posters. They should include attractive illustrations and are actually up to two pages long (printed front and back). Conveners welcome voluntary submissions and will invite many participants to submit their thoughts in written form.

Travel and lodging arrangements

The workshop will be held in the Comfort Inn and Brown Palace in Denver, Colorado. The hotels are adjacent to each other and joined by a pedestrian bridge. Lodging will be in the Comfort Inn and meetings and most other events will be in the Brown Palace.

Funds are available to reimburse transportation and lodging expenses of participants, but are limited by the amount granted by NSF. We hope that participants are able to find economical airfares and to minimize other transportation expenses.

Details of registration at the hotel will be forwarded to participants and posted on the web as they become available. We will ask participants to share rooms. If participants wish to have a single room, half of the charge will be covered by granted participant-support funds.

Individuals who choose to cover their own expenses or who are prevented from using NSF funds to pay their expenses should let the organizers know their situation.

Schedule

The actual workshop will begin with a plenary session at 8:00 am on Thursday, June 4, and end at 3:00 pm on Friday, June 5. Most participants should be able to stay to the end of the meeting (when some important items will come up for decision) and catch evening flights to most destinations in North America. An invited writing group will meet at the close of the meeting.
